The National Harbor has a new seafood spot with the opening of Walrus & Oyster Ale House, a 150-seat eatery by the Star Restaurant Group. Longtime Washington chef Bob Kinkead consulted on the seafood-centric menu, while Kris Carr is behind beachy beverages such as the Baltimore Crush. As the outdoor sipping weather lingers, take advantage of the spot’s 75-seat deck. Make sure you click Allow or Grant Permissions if your browser asks for your location.

The bar features a unique scratch cocktail program using small batch artisanal spirits, freshly squeezed juices and homemade seasonal syrups. Like its namesake, The Walrus beverage program is big and bold serving “over the top” frozen drinks and seasonal Margaritas that have become crowd favorites. The Walrus opened its second location at The Mall in Columbia, Maryland in spring of 2018! This much anticipated second edition has made a splash with the residents of Howard County. Key features of this 280-seat restaurant include a prodigious shucking bar, signature Walrus island bar boasting 26 taps and a beautiful enclosed patio space.

The all-scratch kitchen serves a seasonal menu and daily fresh features both from land and sea. For something more substantial, there’s a crab cake sandwich, lobster roll, fish and chips, and seafood basket (Ipswich clams, oysters, scallops, or jumbo shrimp) with fries. The few non-seafood offerings range from a burger to beef brisket to a pork chop. The raw bar is also a main attraction, with at least eight varies of east coast oysters and seven from the west coast. Guests can also throw back two kinds of oyster shooters, including one with tequila, pineapple, mint, cilantro, serrano pepper, and sea salt. The bar serves 14 beers on tap (plus cans and bottles), a small selection of wine, frozen cocktails, punches, beer cocktails, and something called the “Baltimore crush,” which is basically a fancy orange crush.

With a seating capacity of up to 275 guests, our restaurant creates massive curb appeal to the visitors of the MGM Grand Casino and National Harbor. The spot from Star Restaurant Group, headed by restaurateur Michael Sternberg, has about 190 seats and large garage doors that open up to a deck with a view of the Potomac River. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House gets its name from a Lewis Carroll poem entitled “The Walrus and the Carpenter.” That, however, is already the name of a seafood-centric restaurant in Seattle.

There’s a new place to slurp oysters and drink Old Bay-rimmed cocktails in National Harbor. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House opened last week with a seafood-heavy menu designed by Ancora and Campono chef Bob Kinkead, the restaurant’s culinary advisor. The design provides an industrial homage to the Chesapeake Bay oyster industry of the late 1800’s.

This 7,000 square foot, Chesapeake Bay inspired, full-service seafood restaurant, was bustling the moment we launched in National Harbor, MD. We’ve earned a legitimate reputation as an authentic oyster house, from our expansive program, boasting up to 15 bivalve varietals in all and selling over 500,000 oysters a year. The Walrus Oyster & Ale House has become a “go to” destination for Maryland/Virginia locals and out of town visitors alike. Our all-scratch and locally sourced food menu draws inspiration from the surrounding Chesapeake Bay area.
